Winning an International Business event, how is it done?

Come along and find out how important you and your organisations are in helping Wellington secure International Business Events. Our panel will explain the work that goes into bidding right through to delivery.

Jean Hendry – Tourism New Zealand

Any international bid starts with research and a lead.  Jean Hendry's role as Business Events Bid Executive waves the flag for New Zealand, a great destination for a business event.  Jean and the Tourism NZ Business Events team are tasked with attracting International Business Events into New Zealand.

Claire Martin – Business Events Wellington

Business Development Manager for Business Events Wellington and Wellington Local Convention Bureau, Claire’s primary focus is attracting both Australian and International Business events into Wellington. Working alongside Tourism NZ, Claire works with their bidding team to identify opportunities, pull together a bid that would knock any other global destination out of the park and support our local bid champion in winning the rights to host an international conference in their own city.

Murray Early – Callaghan Innovation

To win an international bid, you need an amazing local bid champion. Murray Early who is a scientist in the electricity standards business unit at Callaghan Innovation was indeed that. Murray’s passion for what he does as a thought world leader in his field, gave Wellington the edge in its efforts to bid and then win the rights to host the Precision Electromagnetic Measurements Conference – CPEM 2022. This event alone will attract around 500-600 delegates from all around the globe, bringing an estimated economic impact of $1,205,400.00 to the Wellington Region.

Janet Matheson – Conferences & Events Ltd

The PCO works behind the scenes, alongside the bid team, preparing the important feasibility study for each conference bid.  Janet Matheson leads the Conferences & Events Ltd team of professional conference organisers who have been involved in preparing many feasibility studies for bids. C&E have been organising international conferences since 1991. Times have changed and with the huge resources and synergies that Tourism NZ and Business Events Wellington and the PCO now bring together, the future for conferencing has never looked better. When the celebrations of a winning bid are done, then the PCO partners with the convening committee and work starts in earnest to ensure that the conference is successful in every way.
