Welcome to the Wairarapa

Spectacular coastlines, big skies, wide valleys and colonial townships make up the Wairarapa, a region only an hour's drive or train ride from Wellington and just over an hour’s drive from Palmerston North.

It is located at the heart of the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail and is one of the country’s top wine and food destinations.

The Wairarapa is well equipped to host small to mid-size conferences thanks to its wide variety of accommodation which ranges from luxury lodges and 5 Star hotels to motels and charming B&Bs, many of which are in historic villas that have been sensitively restored.

Accommodation is located right throughout the valley – stretching from Wharekauhau Country Estate, with its dramatic coastal views, in the south to the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Solway Park, which has stunning views of the Tararua Ranges, in the north.

Venues here are equally diverse. The purpose built Carterton Events Centre is centrally located, has a 450-seat flexible space auditorium that can be set up for a variety of layouts and easy access to a range of break-out rooms. The renowned Copthorne Hotel & Resort Solway Park in Masterton has been refurbished ensuring its facilities remain top notch. While Peppers Parehua and Brackenridge, both of which are in the wine village of Martinborough, have a great outlook for those wanting a rural setting.

The region is fortunate to have a 300 capacity off-site, mobile venue called Nation which has been described as a “giant transformer truck”. Based at Borthwick Vineyard in Gladstone, Nation can be moved and set up in a variety of layouts and locations.

Several vineyards, historical and cultural venues also cater for large groups such as Cobblestones in Greytown with its contemporary gallery and entrance building while breakout areas include an old school and church. A traditional Maori welcome can also be performed. Tui HQ is north of Masterton and features the iconic Tui tower,
