Tim was born in Dunedin and is an Economic Graduate from Otago University who has spent 40 years in the aviation and tourism industries.

His early roles were as a commercial pilot in the general aviation sector. He worked in a range of planning and management roles for Air New Zealand and then the Mount Cook Group in the 1980s and 90s. In 1998 he joined Tourism New Zealand in Wellington as General Manager Operations, taking care of the organisation's trade marketing functions whilst also overseeing the operation of all of its overseas operations. 

Tim joined Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism as their CEO in December 2010 and managed the organisation through the significant earthquake event in Christchurch in February 2011 and for the next 5 years of the region's recovery phase. 

He moved from Christchurch to Queenstown in early 2016 to become CEO of Southern Discoveries which operates a substantial fleet of cruise vessels and buses from its bases in Queenstown, Te Anau and Milford Sound. He is proud once again to be a Southern Man.
