I am a happy generalist. Happy to be generally in this space.
More specifically I am Executive Director of Ziptrek Ecotours in Queenstown, New Zealand. A very proud New Zealand resident. I grew up in Australia as a Chinese Malaysian Australian, spent a reasonable amount of time in Asia and have business partners that are Canadian...to get a diverse view of the world.
My time is generally associated with the time that I have spent establishing #ZiptrekNZ. I am a strong advocate of sustainability in tourism as the primary motive; particularly education in the outdoors. I see this as a vocal and vital role in the business of adventure tourism. The serious nature of 'fun' is the catalyst for anchored and meaningful outdoor experiences to build empathy for the natural world.
In my 'spare' time I was part a team to build a online video (邂逅新西兰First Hand Productions) helping people to understand the intricacies of culture and place in New Zealand for Chinese visitors. Currently we have released a Series Two of 17 episodes focusing on the greater Auckland and Queenstown regions with a view to expand to all areas of New Zealand. This is an experiment in the process of bridging the cultural gaps that exist between people, by creating useful information about this place for people.
I am part of a super committee and also a generous NZ group of TEDx'ers. We ran TEDxQueenstown in April 2013, April 2014, February 2015 and April 2016 our fourth campaign. This is one of the most exciting networks of people that I have ever encountered and I am pleased and humbled to be a part of it. TEDActive2014, 2015 were mind-blowing experiences (Whistler) Canada with TEDSummit (Banff) a highlight in my self education on 'ideas worth spreading'.
